Infant Program

A Beginning Built on Respect

At Little Wings, we see infants as competent, capable people from the very beginning. Our infant program is grounded in the principles of RIE (Resources for Infant Educarers) and inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach, creating an environment where relationships, trust, curiosity, and respect guide each day. Our teachers slow down and take time to truly know each infant. Caregiving moments—feeding, diapering, dressing, and preparing for rest—are meaningful opportunities for connection, communication, and growing independence. Teachers talk with infants about what is happening, invite their participation, and give them time to respond.

Time and Space to Discover

Infants are given freedom to move, explore, and develop at their own pace. Rather than positioning an infant in a way they cannot yet reach independently, teachers provide safe spaces for natural movement and observe before stepping in.

Thoughtfully chosen materials invite infants to reach, grasp, move, investigate, and discover. Teachers pay close attention to what captures each infant’s interest and use those observations to thoughtfully shape the environment and offer new possibilities for exploration.

Relationships Come First

Consistent, responsive relationships create the security infants need to explore their world with confidence. Teachers communicate before caregiving, respond attentively to infants’ cues, and recognize that even the youngest children have preferences, ideas, and ways of communicating.

We want infants to experience a simple but powerful message each day: You are seen. You are heard. You are capable.

Individual Rhythms

Infancy isn't one-size-fits-all. Feeding, rest, movement, and development look different for every child. We work closely with families to understand each infant’s routines and cues while providing the consistency and connection that help them feel secure at school.

This is where curiosity begins—and where children begin building confidence in themselves and trust in the people and world around them.
