Our Outdoor Preschool is a four-hour, fully outdoor program for children ages 3–5. Guided by the same philosophy that shapes every Little Wings classroom, children spend their mornings immersed in the natural world, where curiosity, relationships, and meaningful experiences inspire learning.
Why Learn Outdoors?
Nature offers children opportunities to explore, wonder, and discover in ways that cannot be replicated indoors. Through unhurried time outside, children develop confidence, resilience, creativity, problem-solving skills, and a deep connection to the natural world. Each season brings new questions, discoveries, and experiences, allowing learning to unfold in meaningful and authentic ways.
The Outdoor Preschool Experience
Outdoor Preschool at Little Wings Early Learning Academy is a four-hour, fully outdoor program for children ages 3-5. Rooted in our Reggio Emilia-inspired philosophy, children learn through relationships, inquiry, and open-ended experiences in nature.
The natural environment offers endless opportunities for discovery. Fallen leaves, insects, changing weather, mud, sticks, stones, and wildlife become authentic materials for investigation as children ask questions, test ideas, solve problems, and make sense of the world around them. Educators thoughtfully observe children's interests and extend learning through experiences that nurture curiosity, confidence, resilience, and a lifelong connection to the natural world.
Year-Round Outdoor Learning
Children experience nature as it changes throughout the year. Whether it is noticing new growth in the spring, splashing in puddles after the rain, collecting colorful autumn leaves, or exploring fresh snow, each season offers unique opportunities for observation, discovery, and learning.
Children come prepared for the weather each day so they can remain comfortable and fully participate in the outdoor experience. Families receive a recommended clothing list before the program begins.

Are children outdoors the entire program?
Yes. Outdoor Preschool is a four-hour, fully outdoor program. Children spend their entire session outdoors, allowing them to experience nature in every season and all kinds of weather.
What happens during severe weather?
Outdoor Preschool is designed to operate in a variety of weather conditions throughout the year. If severe weather or other unsafe conditions make it unsafe to be outdoors, the program will be canceled, and families will be notified as early as possible.
Does my child need to be independently toilet trained?
Yes. Children must be independently toilet trained before beginning Outdoor Preschool.
Can my child attend beyond the four-hour Outdoor Preschool program?
Yes. Families who need additional care may combine Outdoor Preschool with time in one of our indoor preschool classrooms, based on availability and their child's enrollment schedule.
What should my child wear?
Children should arrive dressed appropriately for the weather each day. Families will receive a recommended clothing and gear guide before the program begins to help children stay comfortable and fully participate in the outdoor experience throughout the year.
