Ones Program
Ones is a year of incredible change
Children are moving more, communicating more, and beginning to discover just how much they can do for themselves. Our Ones classroom gives them the time and space to explore those new abilities without being rushed.
The classroom is arranged so children can see and reach materials, make choices, move throughout the environment, and explore independently. You might see a child filling and emptying a container over and over, figuring out how something fits together, carrying materials from one place to another, or working hard to climb onto a low platform. What may look simple is important work as children begin to understand how their bodies and the world around them work.
Teachers are nearby to support, encourage, and keep children safe, but we don't step in simply because something is difficult. We give children time to try, problem-solve, and experience the satisfaction of doing something for themselves.
Caregiving is just as important. During meals, diapering, rest, and transitions, teachers talk with children about what is happening and encourage them to participate as they are able. These everyday moments build trust, communication, and independence.
Throughout the day, children have opportunities to move, investigate, create, communicate, and make discoveries. At Little Wings, we see one-year-olds as competent and capable, and we want them to leave each day with an ever-growing sense of “I can do it.”
